Hi guys, I\u2019m back again to talk about my service as a Personal Trainer in Ashbourne<\/strong> delivering personal training to women and men from the young to older age groups and how I approach clients who need my help. The first thing I want to say is age is just a number, nothing else! Everyone is capable of achieving their goals once they put in the effort and follow a proven system. So, a lot of people come to me for personal training and I get a lot of enquiries regarding it.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to break it down and explain how I would go through the general stages of a personal training package.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

So, For Example:<\/p>\n

I get an email through my website or a message on Facebook from Mary. Mary has been following my page the last couple of weeks and her eldest son is getting married in 5 months.\u00a0 She wants to lose 3 stone and get rid of her bingo wings. \u00a0She\u2019s stuck in a rut, she feels horrible about herself, she\u2019s only 45 and has lost all interest in herself over the years while taking care of her family. \u00a0She goes walking three nights a week but doesn\u2019t seem to be getting anywhere. Mary is starting to panic and doesn\u2019t want to look the way she looks for her son\u2019s wedding.<\/p>\n

\n

Now this email is exactly like 70% of the emails I get. The lady or gentleman behind the email thinks they are the only one around that feels like this \u2026\u2026NO!”<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

You\u2019re not, everybody goes through stages of this in their life. \u00a0Some stay at that stage for a long time, others come in and out of it. \u00a0We are a human race and we will never be 100% happy with how we feel, or who we see in the mirror. \u00a0What we need to realise is that WE ARE NOT ALONE.<\/strong> Me personally I\u2019m always having them, but I also know that I suffer from a touch of Body Dysmorphia, not massively, but it does affect my life and believe it or not it affects everyone around me \u2026It\u2019s learning to accept the days that you feel like this and ensuring you have more positive days that will overcome the so called \u201cfat day”.<\/p>\n

……So Back to Mary<\/p>\n

So, the hard part is done for Mary, she has mailed me, probably told me what she would never tell anyone \u2026 \u00a0that she has more of less let herself go and has no interest in herself \u2026 \u00a0that\u2019s a pretty unhappy place to be and it\u2019s a pretty hard thing to admit even to yourself.\u00a0We get the ball rolling, we have an appointment for the next morning.<\/p>\n

Why so quick you ask? Ok so, Mary doesn\u2019t seem like a very confident woman regarding how she looks and feels about herself, she\u2019s quite vulnerable so anything can stop her from following this through. \u00a0She has a goal, 5 months which will be here in the blink of an eye and if she doesn\u2019t do it now she\u2019s going to regret it and wished she did it sooner.<\/p>\n

My advice to anyone who can relate to Mary, act on it now and don\u2019t wait around because even though our mind is a great thing, it doesn\u2019t want change.\u00a0 That little voice that\u2019s making you feel like your ten-ton Tessie when you are nowhere near it, needs to be reprogrammed to a different way of thinking and using your body.<\/p>\n

TRUST ME. I HAVE WALKED YOUR WALK”<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Meeting<\/h2>\n

9am Mary shows up to Sharon Doherty fitness. We greet with a friendly hug and we take a seat.<\/p>\n

I always ask straight away what I can do to help you, even though Mary did tell me in the email but when you connect with someone on a 1-1 level it just spills. \u00a0Now we have a foundation to work on, we chat about children, lifestyle, food, social life,\u00a0but most importantly I touch base on the support network surrounding her \u2026believe it or not I don\u2019t ask any personal questions most clients just talk it out, I listen and now we have built a wider foundation.<\/p>\n

We need to work on her mindset more than anything and I\u2019ll do that while she trains with me in her sessions.\u00a0So, I discuss Marys options and I offer classes or personal training or both, whatever she feels is the right one for her.<\/p>\n

Mary decides the on the monthly Personal Training package which is 2 personal training sessions per week and unlimited access to SDF’s huge range of fitness classes. \u00a0She is delighted to hear that most of the women training with me are all in the same boat regarding how they feel about their bodies and most are between 30 and 55 years of age. \u00a0That made her feel so much more comfortable.<\/p>\n

So, it\u2019s two RT24 classes a week along with her 1-1 Personal Training, we won\u2019t worry about her diet yet for the first month. I just want Mary mixing with likeminded women so, that combined with exercise will have a massive impact on her mind, which is where we need to start.<\/p>\n

\n

“We chat about the weighing scales and why I don\u2019t agree with it.\u00a0 However, we will try it for a week or two, but we will see more from the measuring tape than the weighing scales.”<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I can chat about the weighting scales throughout her sessions and explain why I don\u2019t use it or recommend anyone using it.\u00a0We chat about her diet and we twigged a few things. \u00a0We change one or two things at a time and we see how it goes.<\/p>\n

I removed all bread, no take away, no wine and 3 balanced meals a day with 2 snacks, remembering she\u2019s not on a macro plan or counting calories. \u00a0I just want her to slightly change her relationship with food.<\/p>\n

I go through my first diet bible that I wrote especially for changing eating habits and she is quite happy and seems positive leaving the gym\u2026 and surprisingly excited.<\/p>\n

Session 1<\/h2>\n

The following lunchtime we get her started on her sessions. All very basic to start, I went through some fitness tests and light body weight exercises while talking to Mary with every rep.<\/p>\n

This is the session that I build the clients programme around. I watch for weakness and strength and monitor every breath.<\/p>\n

We do a full body session hitting everybody part and we finish with some light steady cardio. Was it tough? Yep but only because this is all new, her body was in shock but loving it at the same time.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Walking out that door Mary feels awake \u2026 her mind feels awake, revived, free.\u00a0 Marys body even though it\u2019s tired, it\u2019s a happy tired, an awake tired. \u00a0If you train and you have gone through a stage of not training, you will know what that feeling is like.<\/p>\n

\n

“THE SLUGGISH FEELING IS GONE.\u00a0THE SPARK IS LIT.”<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This incredible feeling is called endorphins. \u00a0When you train, these hormones are released from the brain and nervous system, they have a lot of physiological functions\u2026. these are peptides which activate the body\u2019s opiate receptors, causing the analgesic effect (feeling amazing).<\/p>\n

All those big words. In other words, exercise makes you feel amazing. Who doesn\u2019t want to feel amazing?<\/p>\n

I build a programme for over the next 2 weeks for Mary using more compound exercises so I\u2019m hitting more muscle groups at every session. \u00a0My sessions are mainly based around compound exercises and core with HIIT Cardio.<\/p>\n

When working on Marys fitness levels and mindset, remember everything will fall into place. Even though I may focus on your legs or your back in a session you will still get a full body workout because I don\u2019t agree with training 1 muscle group and ignoring the rest, yes, I\u2019ll train a certain one harder, but the whole body will get worked on. Technique is also crucial, and this is something I am quite strict on even in classes.<\/p>\n

I won\u2019t go in detail about every session because I can\u2019t, every session is different. But what I will say is that the benefits of personal training are huge and catered to the individual needs.<\/p>\n

“Every person has different goals and reasons why they get personal training.”<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Me as a coach, Personal Trainer, Sports Nutritionist and I also have a holistic background, I am also someone that has been over weight and under weight with an eating disorder that has maintained a healthy lifestyle as much as I promote it and I understand the daily chaos of life and how unbalanced it can get.<\/p>\n

Hi guys, I\u2019m back again to talk about my service as a personal trainer in Ashbourne<\/strong> delivering personal training to women and men from the young to older age groups and how I approach clients who need my help. The first thing I want to say is age is just a number, nothing else! everyone is capable of achieving their goals once they put in the effort and follow a proven system. So, a lot of people come to me for personal training and I get a lot of enquiries regarding it.<\/p>

I\u2019m going to break it down and explain how I would go through the general stages of a personal training package<\/p>

So, For Example<\/p>

I get an email on Face Book from Mary saying she\u2019s been following my page the last few weeks and her eldest son is getting married in 5 months.\u00a0 She wants to lose 3 stone and get rid of her bingo wings. \u00a0She\u2019s stuck in a rut, she feels horrible about herself, she\u2019s only 45 and has lost all interest in herself over the years while taking care of her family. \u00a0She goes walking 3 nights a week but doesn\u2019t seem to be getting anywhere. Mary is starting to panic and doesn\u2019t want to look the way she looks for her son\u2019s wedding.<\/p>

Now this email is exactly like 70% of the emails I get. The lady or gentleman behind the email thinks they are the only one around that feels like this \u2026\u2026NO!<\/p>

You\u2019re not, everybody goes through stages of this in their life. \u00a0Some stay at that stage for a long time, others come in and out of it. \u00a0We are a human race and we will never be 100% happy with how we feel, or who we see in the mirror. \u00a0What we need to realise is that we are not alone. Me personally I\u2019m always having them, but I also know that I suffer from a touch of \u201cBody Dysmorphia \u201cnot massively but it does affect my life and believe it or not it affects everyone around me \u2026It\u2019s learning to accept the days that you feel like this and ensuring you have more positive days that will overcome the so called \u201cfat day. \u201c<\/p>

So Back to Mary<\/p>

Hi Mary thanks for your email and thanks for following my page it means a lot.<\/p>

Congrats on your son getting married, I\u2019m sure it\u2019s as stressful and exciting at the same time.<\/p>

So, the hard part is done for Mary, she has mailed me, probably told me what she would never tell anyone \u2026 \u00a0that she has more of less let herself go and has no interest in herself \u2026 \u00a0that\u2019s a pretty unhappy place to be and it\u2019s a pretty hard thing to admit even to yourself.<\/p>

We get the ball rolling, we have an appointment for the next morning.<\/p>

Why so quick you ask \u2026 ok so Mary doesn\u2019t seem like a very confident woman regarding how she looks and feels about herself, she\u2019s quite vulnerable so anything can stop her from following this through. \u00a0She has a goal, 5 months which will be here in the blink of an eye and if she doesn\u2019t do it now she\u2019s going to regret it and wished she did it sooner.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

My advice to anyone who can relate to Mary, act on it now and don\u2019t wait around because even though our mind is a great thing, it doesn\u2019t want change.\u00a0 That little voice that\u2019s making you feel like your ten-ton Tessie when you are no where near it, needs to be reprogrammed to a different way of thinking and using your body.<\/p>

After 1 training session your mind and body will love it.<\/p>

The Meeting<\/p>

9am Mary shows up to Sharon Doherty fitness.<\/p>

We greet with a friendly hug and we take a seat.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

I always ask straight away what I can do to help you, even though Mary did tell me in the email but when you connect with someone on a 1-1 level it just spills. \u00a0Now we have a foundation to work on, we chat about children, lifestyle, food, social life,<\/p>

but most importantly I touch base on the support network surrounding her \u2026<\/p>

Believe it or not I don\u2019t ask any personal questions most clients just talk it out, I listen and now we have built a wider foundation \u2026<\/p>

We need to work on her mindset more than anything and I\u2019ll do that while she trains with me in her sessions.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

So, I discuss Marys options and I offer classes or personal training or both, whatever she feels is the right one for her.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Mary decides the monthly pt. package which is 2 personal training sessions per week and classes. \u00a0She is delighted to hear that most of the women training with me are all in the same boat regarding how they feel about their bodies and most are between 30 and 55 years of age. \u00a0That made her feel so much more comfortable.<\/p>

So, it\u2019s 2 RT24 classes a week along with her 1-1 training, we won\u2019t worry about her diet yet for the first month. I just want Mary mixing with likeminded women so, that combined with exercise will have a massive impact on her mind, which is where we need to start.<\/p>

We chat about the weighing scales and why I don\u2019t agree with it.\u00a0 However, we will try it for a week or two, but we will see more from the measuring tape than the weighing scales.<\/p>

I can chat about the weighting scales throughout her sessions and explain why I don\u2019t use it or recommend anyone using it.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

We chat about her diet and we twigged a few things. \u00a0We change 1 or 2 things at a time and we see how it goes.<\/p>

I removed all bread, no take away, no wine and 3 balanced meals a day with 2 snacks, remembering she\u2019s not on a macro plan or counting calories. \u00a0I just want her to slightly change her relationship with food.<\/p>

I go through my first diet bible that I wrote especially for changing eating habits and she is quite happy and seems positive leaving the gym\u2026 and surprisingly excited.<\/p>

Session 1<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The following lunchtime we get her started on her sessions.<\/p>

All very basic, I went through some fitness tests and light body weight exercises while talking to Mary with every rep.<\/p>

This is the session that I build the clients programme around.<\/p>

I watch for weakness and strength and monitor every breath.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

We do a full body session hitting everybody part and we finish with some light steady cardio<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Was it tough? Yep but only because this is all new her body was in shock but loving it at the same time.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Walking out that door Mary feels awake \u2026 her mind feels awake, revived, free.\u00a0 Marys body even though it\u2019s tired, it\u2019s a happy tired, an awake tired. \u00a0If you train and you have gone through a stage of not training, you will know what that feeling is like. THE SLUGGISH FEELING IS GONE.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

THE SPARK IS LIT. This is called endorphins. \u00a0When you train, these hormones are released from the brain and nervous system, they have a lot of physiological functions\u2026. these are peptides which activate the body\u2019s opiate receptors, causing the analgesic effect (feeling amazing).<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

All those big words. In other words, exercise makes you feel amazing. Who doesn\u2019t want to feel amazing?<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

I build a programme for over the next 2 weeks for Mary using more compound exercises so I\u2019m hitting more muscle groups at every session. \u00a0My sessions are mainly based around compound exercises and core with HIIT Cardio.<\/p>

When working on Marys fitness levels and mindset, remember everything will fall into place.<\/p>

Even though I may focus on your legs or your back in a session you will still get a full body workout because I don\u2019t agree with training 1 muscle group and ignoring the rest, yes, I\u2019ll train a certain one harder, but the whole body will get worked on.<\/p>

Technique is also crucial, and this is some thing I am quite strict on even in classes.<\/p>

I won\u2019t go on in detail about every session because I can\u2019t, every session is different.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

But what I will say is that the benefits of personal training are huge and catered to the individual needs.<\/p>

Every person has different goals and reasons why they get personal training.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Me as a coach, personal trainer, sports nutritionist and I also have a holistic background, I am also someone that has been over weight and under weight with an eating disorder that has maintained a healthy lifestyle as much as I promote it and I understand the daily chaos of life and how unbalanced it can get.<\/p>
